Read the entire question before answering. Make sure you understand exactly what is being asked.
Look for words such as define, describe, explain, compare, discuss, calculate, identify and evaluate. They tell you what type of answer is required.
Identify important words, figures, units, conditions and instructions in the question.
For essays and extended responses, briefly organize your main points before you start writing.
Give an answer that addresses the question. Avoid adding large amounts of unrelated information.
For calculations, show the formula, substitution, working steps and final answer with the correct unit where appropriate.
Examples can make explanations clearer, especially when a question asks you to explain or illustrate a concept.
Do not spend too much time on one question. Allocate your time according to the marks and leave time to review your answers.
